A few weekends ago myself and a team of oh so talented wedding vendors joined forces to create an Amethyst and Pewter themed space for Bespoke The Wedding Event organized by Simply Weddings. Hosted at the Martiott Harbour Front, there were 6 rooms, with 6 different wedding themes and the end result was nothing short of magical. Be sure to check out Bespoke's Facebook Page for a peak at all of the spaces!
Stephanie of Sky's The Limit Wedding and Event Design did such an amazing job styling our space, choosing all the details which truly tied the space together effortlessly. From lilac tinted beverages, dried lavender on each place setting, geode inspired rock candy garnishes and napkins which she hand dyed herself - the girl is truly nothing short of amazing.
Andrea of Lupin Design Studio created the most gorgeous amethyst inspired invitation & stationery suite that my eyes ever did see.
With each detail perfectly captured by Rebecca Clarke of Rebecca Clarke Emotive Photography our room was also complete by an INCREDIBLE geode cake by Ursula Wildly Cakes and concrete planters by Concreations. Make Merry Events kindly let me use their stunning urns and vintage pedestal dishes (which are available for rent on their website!) for the flower arrangements. Check below for the full list of participants.
Back in December my husband and I took a little trip to Toronto. Nothing special, just some time to relax and recenter after a busy wedding season. While we were there I attended a table top workshop at Bloom School. The day I went, they were hosting a Holiday Market and there were a bunch of different vendors and makers selling their wares, a Flower Bar set up by Blush & Bloom (who also own Bloom School). I walked around the studio, looking at their beautiful set up and thought what an inspiring place it must feel like to come to work everyday.
For the past 2 summers I've spent working from home sharing a small unfinished space in our basement with my pups Chole & Lady. I've never really felt that space matched how I wanted my business to feel and it often limited the things I wanted to do. When we got home, I started looking for a small commercial space. I wanted something with a short commute, reasonably priced, where I could have a bigger space for production and a pretty area for client meetings and photography.
Our new home is located on Fairbanks Street in Downtown Dartmouth. Our studio which is just under 700 sq ft is on the 2nd floor of a shared warehouse and is made up of three parts. The first is the office, the place where we are excited to have our clients come meet with us to hash out all the dreams of their big day. One of my favorite parts about the office is that it has two huge windows which overlook the Harbour with a gorgeous view of Halifax. They fill the entire space with such beautiful natural light. The second is workshop. This is where we will receive, sort and process all the flowers for our events. All of the production magic will happen here! The third is our storage area which is a small separate room lined with shelves which will house all of our supplies and rentals.
While we've already made our self at home in the office, we'll be taking over the workshop space in June, once we are in the full swing of weddings! My family and I have been busy painting, assembling and shopping for the new space over the past couple months. I've always been pretty intentional about building our tiny family business without creating debt; so we've made due with what we have and bargain shopped for the rest. I found a few second hand vintage pieces that I really loved and my dad built our benches and flower risers. So far we're loving the way things have turned out and we'll keep you update on how the process goes throughout the summer.
One of my favorite things to do in the down season is participate in collaborative shoots with other vendors in the Maritimes. Not only do you get gorgeous photos like these incredible shots from J Wells Photography, but you get the chance to meet such wonderful people who are also so passionate about what they do. I had so much fun working on this project at Lot six with an awesome team.

I really love when other friends who work in our wedding community ask me to create something beautiful for their day. I met Kelsie for the first time back at Bliss the Bridal Event last year. Kelsie is an incredibly talented Make Up Artist and back in the summer we had so much fun collaborating on a styled shoot at my parents house on the river (Check it out!). Not only does Kelsie have a gift with make up - she can also plan one gorgeous wedding!
Ian + Kelsie tied the knot at Merseys River Chalet & Nature Retreat back in October. I think these gorgeous photos taken by Sydney MacLennan Photography do the perfect job of capturing what a special place this really is. Kelsie's flowers were a soft and wild mix of dried lavender, caspea, wax flower, babies breath and mixed foliage.
Congratulations Kelsie + Ian!
Whew. What a whirlwind. As I sit here on January 6th, in a brand new year, I've quietly had some time to think and reflect on all the amazing opportunities I've had in 2016; and since starting this tiny little business really. I've had a love for floristry since my very first part time job in a retail shop at the age of 16. Right from then I knew, in some capacity, this would always be what I'd do. I had found my 'thing'.
I can remember being pregnant with Bella. 2 weeks over due... In July. Sitting with a scribbler, jotting down ideas, plans, dreams. Wondering how I would continue to learn and grow in a career that I love so much, while still being the mom I wanted to be. If only I knew then what I know now! With my first seasons under my belt and over 50 weddings booked for 2017, I know in just the blink of an eye the next season and all the flurry of activities that it brings along will be knocking on my door. So it's got me thinking, what's next?
2017 will see some big changes for us! For the first 2 years, I've run the show from a small unfinished room in my home, co-occupied with my pups Chole & Lady! As business continues to grow and contracts become larger we've out grown the home studio; which is exciting to say. When I made the decision to start looking for a new home for my Studio I have to say it was a little intimidating. I had a pretty specific vision of what I wanted it to look like. Close to the water, tons of natural light, lots of storage, space to host workshops, the prefect area to meet with clients, display rentals. After all, If I am going to be giving up the comforts of home, it's going to be for a place that I love! Over the next month we'll start the process of moving, painting, decorating, building, set ups and of course creating beautiful weddings! I am so excited to share this with you all as things start to come together!
In addition to the studio which will remain by 'appointment only', we'll also be adding two new members to the Twig & Twine team - which is mega exciting! Make sure to follow along with us on this crazy little flower journey. I'll be posting new blogs and Instagram stories throughout the process to keep you guys in the loop - because really the work is just starting!
Thank you so much for all the love + support. Here goes nothing!
This past season has been such an incredible and exciting blur. Throughout the month of December I took some time to digest all the magic that’s happened in 2016 and dream up some really, really exciting things to come in 2017. I’ve got a few blog posts to come on just exactly what I mean there.
In the mean time, I am really excited to share these incredible images captured by mega talented Chantal Routhier Photography of Emma + Sam’s Wedding back in November.
Sam and I went to Jr. High + High School together and In the very short time I’ve known Emma, I can say that she is the absolute perfect compliment to him. Sam’s family were also my very first customer’s when I decided to open the doors to Twig & Twine - needless to say I’ve got endless love for them!
Emma’s flower choices were soft & delicate. Light blue delphiniums, soft pink ranunculus, crisp white lisianthus, commercial mums and spray roses mixed with some seeded eucalyptus to keep things airy and light.
Sending tons of love + congratulations your way Mr. & Mrs. Edmonds!
This past season I have been so lucky to work with so many incredible couples and vendors. With the 2016 wedding season coming to an end I am already fully immersed in the planning for my 2017 couples. In the mean time I can't wait to share some images with you guys of the weddings from this past summer - so many pretty things to come!
Robyn & Matt were married at The Saraguay House back in August. I loved every last detail they put together for their special day. The eclectic mix of vessels and vintage candle sticks for the centerpieces, the colour pallete, not to mention... Robyn's dress! Talk about a show stopper. Chelle Wooten Photograhy did an incredble job of capturing every single moment.
Over the past few weeks I've been sharing snippets of this photoshoot and I am so excited to share the full collection with you guys today! These photos were taken at my families home on the river. I've spent countless afternoons drawing inspiration from this very place. It's also were you can find me any given weekend foraging for greenery and flowers while Bella and James search for frogs in the water.
SLR Images Photography by Shannon Lee Reid could not have captured the day any more perfectly. Both sets of incredible, hand crafted jewelry were compliments of the oh-so-talented Miss Foxine Couture. Stationery including Invitations, Save the Dates, RSVP's, Program, Menu, Place Cards and Table Numbers were crafted by Owner and design wizard Andrea of Lupin Design Studio. Our model Melissa (Also one of my bestest friends of 20+years!) looked so so breathtaking. Our glam squad was completed by Cassia MacDonald who styled Melissa's gorgeous locks and Kelsie Clark knocked it out of the park with Melissa's make up. Seriously - THAT LIPSTICK! I've been in awe of Valerie's from Something Borrowed Vintage Rentals collection for years. She has an amazing supply of unique items that I've never seen anywhere else. Amy of Cake Babes made a beautiful naked cake which not only looked gorgeous dressed up with a few of my blooms, but also tasted incredible. I know this, because we dove into it before the shoot was even over. A girls gotta eat! I am so thankful for such an awesome group of creative friends to collaborate with. I hope you guys enjoy looking as much as we enjoyed creating!
It's hard to explain how excited I get when my past clients come back to share photo's with me from their wedding. I flip through them with anticipation as if they were my very own. Jen & Jeff said their "I do's" back in September at the Dalhousie University Club in Halifax. Here are a few photos from their big day.
Three years ago this December James proposed to me at my parents house on Christmas day in the company of our daughter and my entire family. I’ve spent the last 12 years of my career helping hundreds of brides make their wedding day wishes come true. On October 3rd James & I along side 100 of our closest family and friends said our very own “I do’s”. It was the perfect day brimming with love, laughter, sweet dance moves and maybe a cocktail… or two ;) Here’s a peak inside the details that went into our own special day.
